Kemp is a Director in Advisory Services at BPM. He has 15 years of experience in complex financial advisory matters, with a primary focus on valuation services. Kemp has played a lead role on over 100 business and asset valuations in his career.

Kemp has specific industry experience in technology, education, healthcare, manufacturing and consumer products industries, among others. Kemp’s experience includes providing services to support forensic matters and dispute resolution for board-level and executive decision making. Deliverables include 409A analyses, gift and estate valuations, partnership/shareholder buyout analyses, purchase price allocations, transaction analyses, impairment testing and other value opinions.

At BPM, Kemp has responsibility for growing and developing the Valuation Team, which is a key part of the Advisory Practice Group. He drives practice development, quality control and risk management, in this key area.

Interesting Tidbit

Kemp was active in the community as a high school football coach for 15 years, including five years as head coach at Alameda High School, and has a passion for providing mentorship and development to young people.


  • Fairness Opinion (Pleasanton, CA and Tokyo, Japan). Consumer product company seeking a third-party fairness opinion to complete a minority shareholder buyout transaction, which includes regulatory scrutiny. The fairness opinion has been processed by multiple parties including regulators and the transaction is currently pending. 
  • Fairness Opinion (San Diego, CA and New York, NY). Adult advanced degree university sought recapitalization. Majority owner required a fairness opinion in order to recapitalize and ensure fairness to minority shareholders. Recapitalization transaction has closed.
  • Minority Shareholder Buyout (Oakland, CA). Environmental professional services company. Completed valuation and consulting services to help majority owner in the process to buy out minority shareholder. The settlement process remains ongoing.
  • Minority Shareholder Buyout (Mountain View, CA). Industrial services provider. Controlling owners utilized valuation and consulting services for buyout of multiple minority shareholders. Transaction has closed.
  • Minority Shareholder Gift (Oakland, CA and Houston, TX). Urban design company looking to restructure ownership via gift of shares. Engaged BPM to determine the fair market value of the gifted shares.  Transaction has been executed.
  • New Partner Buy-In (South San Francisco, CA). Logistics industry. Client sought fair market value analysis for partnership buy-in for a longtime director-level employee. Valuation and consulting services provided to help close the transaction.
