The Firm’s COO Recognized by the AICPA and CPA Practice Advisor

SAN FRANCISCO — BPM LLP, one of the 50 largest public accounting and advisory firms in the country, is pleased to announce that Principal and Chief Operating Officer Scharrell Jackson has been recognized by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and CPA Practice Advisor magazine as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Accounting” for 2020.

With only 25 honorees from across the nation selected annually, the “Most Powerful Women in Accounting” awards celebrate and recognize women who have had the most impact in defining and advancing the business community.

“It is fitting that this year – a year during which we’ve all faced extraordinary challenges – would be the year Scharrell is recognized for this incredible achievement. Her leadership and grace during this time was and is instrumental to our success – both in the near term and in our outlook for the future,” said BPM Chief Executive Officer Jim Wallace. “Scharrell’s dedication to our ‘Because People Matter’ mission and her ability to carry that outlook through to the broader profession and her community will continue to drive our Firm and the entire industry to new heights, and I can’t wait to see where we go together.”

CPA Practice Advisor’s website hosted nominations for the awards, which were open to the public, and the final selection of this year’s recipients was determined by the AICPA's Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee (WIEC), which sponsors research, mentorship and networking opportunities. The awards were announced and presented at the virtual Women’s Global Leadership Summit on Nov. 11.

“This year’s group of winners are an excellent example of the impact that women are making throughout the profession,” said Gail Perry, editor-in-chief of CPA Practice Advisor. “These leaders serve as an inspiration to a generation of women who are starting their career in the profession.”

With over 35 years of operations, accounting and finance experience, Jackson plays an integral role in BPM’s growth and success, working closely with the CEO overseeing business combinations. She also provides executive leadership to the Firm’s Corporate Service Team, which includes Business Development, Marketing, Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources and Administration.

Besides her impact on BPM’s expansion, Jackson supports the firm’s ever-intensifying diversity initiative, Inclusion Now!, which strives to cultivate a culture that encourages colleagues of all genders, ethnicities and those who identify as LGBTQIA+ to feel comfortable expressing their authentic selves.

In addition to her many roles at BPM, Jackson is a dynamic speaker and through her women’s speaker series, “Leadership in Heels,” she continues to boost the professional growth of women. She serves as a Board Member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, the Orange County Pacific Symphony, the AICPA WIEC and the AICPA National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion (NCDI). Additionally, Jackson is on the President’s Advisory Board of Concordia University, the Board of Advisors Center for Leadership at Cal State Fullerton, and the Center for Investment & Wealth Management Advisory Board. She is also a past Board Member of Human Options Inc., Girls Inc. of Orange County, and Working Wardrobes.
