John Hayashi
Managing Director, Tax

John serves as a Managing Director of Tax at BPM, with nearly 30 years of public accounting and private industry experience in State and Local Taxes (SALT). John helps his clients respond to SALT issues, with a specialization in sales tax and use tax that's currently in high demand after the Supreme Court's decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. (2018). He’s a leader in BPM's SALT group, which serves as a single point of contact for clients to analyze their state and local tax liabilities, as well as state and local tax deductions. John listens to client needs to plan and implement strategies that minimize identified liabilities.

 

Bob McGrath

Bob McGrath
Director, Tax

Bob has over twenty years of experience in individual, corporate, and partnership taxation. Before joining BPM, he gained over fifteen years of Big Four experience in San Francisco and New York City. His specific experience includes working with high net worth individuals, venture capital firms and multi-state and multi-national corporations. Bob’s industry focus includes real estate, manufacturing, hospitality and printing/publishing.

Andre is a Partner in BPM’s Specialized Tax Services Practice. As a leader of BPM’s Research and Development (“R&D”) Tax Credit Consulting practice, Andre helps his clients to identify, document, and defend their R&D tax credit claims. With over 15 years of public accounting experience, including 12 years with PwC’s National R&D practice, Andre has served clients in a wide range of industries including software development/SaaS, life science, product development/consumer products, semi-conductor, aerospace and defense, automotive, FinTech, manufacturing, medical device technology, food processing, winemaking, mining and contract engineering.

James has over 25 years of consulting and operational experience in the real estate and construction industries. He provides real estate tax and accounting, valuation, construction cost segregation, fixed asset consulting, and green energy tax advisory services. James also advises clients on real estate development, acquisition, and disposition matters.

 

Julie West

Julie West
Partner, Tax

Julie chairs BPM's Corporate Tax Practice and the Firm's Life Science Industry Group. Julie works closely with biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, software, social media, communications, and manufacturing companies. She has over 14 years of experience in public accounting and deals extensively with tax provisions (FAS 109/ ASC 740), FIN 48 analysis for uncertain tax positions, Section 382 studies to determine limitations on tax attributes, and sales tax exposure. She has advised companies involved in a wide arena of transactions, including mergers, asset and stock acquisitions, tax-free reorganizations and foreign expansion. She consults and reviews a variety of tax returns with multi-state and international filings, and helps guide her clients through financings and IPOs.
