Curtis Burr, Henry Pilger, and Steve Mayer weren't satisfied with the entrenched bureaucratic culture and intrinsic limitations of the big audit firms where they'd worked. In 1986, they left Coopers & Lybrand to found Burr Pilger Mayer, Inc., joining forces to serve the fast-paced needs of the Bay Area's emerging businesses. They built a proactive, client-focused culture from the ground up, and within 4 years BPM was winning recognition as one of the region's prominent up-and-coming accounting firms.
BPM has now had 26 consecutive years of growth averaging more than 20 percent annually through both economic upturns and downturns, but it has never lost its entrepreneurial, can-do spirit. Through strategic acquisitions and mergers, the firm has excelled in growing its talent and practice areas to include a robust Silicon Valley presence, comprehensive wealth management services and a specialized international tax division. Its talented management and people-centered values have propelled BPM onto numerous lists of “Best Places to Work and “Best Managed CPA Firms.”
Today BPM has five offices throughout the Bay Area as well as an office in Hong Kong. With 57 partners and a staff of more than 400, BPM has the expertise and global reach to match the Big Four, yet has kept the bureaucratic red tape far away. BPM continues to exceed expectations, meeting client needs with the same enterprising vision and personalized touch envisioned by its founders from the very beginning.
